Tim Southee's last Test for the Kiwis was against the English side in the final month of 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The ex- New Zealand pace bowler is expected to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.

Speaking as England's squad for the first of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, he said of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.

"We will determine what happens over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had stated the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on 21 November.

"I don't think there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he remarked.

"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the caliber of [the English] team that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.

"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to the English team travel to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
