The City of Angels experienced citywide festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Fans worldwide united with local residents in jubilation, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a team has secured back-to-back championships.
Local events included a procession through the city center on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Online footage depict countless of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” the star player remarked through an translator.
The procession path concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the team walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and the artist driving a light blue classic car around the field.
Festivities began well before the procession, with supporters setting off fireworks in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, commented directly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
However, Mark Walter received a cooler welcome at the rally. Recordings from the gathering appear to show him walking onstage to a mix of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The championship served as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member one athlete, supporters this year demonstrated as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” he remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
