The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
