Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
