Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" knee injury when the Nuggets fell 147-123 at the Miami Heat.

Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter in an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.

The other player came down on the footwear of Jokic, who immediately went down to the court grabbing his knee.

The 30-year-old, who leads the NBA this season in boards and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the injury.

He is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to determine the seriousness of the issue.

"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Denver head coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as special as Jokic. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We will continue as a team. Clearly, right now, I am more worried about him as a person and the disappointment of experiencing something like that."
