When an teenage makes club history in a key Champions League tie against City, it inevitably draws praise and the spotlight.
During his first start in the competition - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder suitably impressed as the fifteen-time European champions secured a three-nil last-16 first-leg advantage at the Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also had his club debut in the qualifying round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Benfica, then helped Los Blancos overcome the English champions in Tuesday's return to confirm a quarter-final berth.
At 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch became the club's youngest player to begin two matches in the Champions League's latter rounds, beating Brazil forward Vinicius Jr's previous mark by 10 days.
The midfielder is the latest to emerge from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting young players.
He signed for Madrid from CD Leganes in 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico Madrid and Getafe's youth teams, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he rapidly created a positive impact.
Pitarch worked his way up to the B team and it was during a pre-season game in which they played against the academy's first team, then coached by Arbeloa, where the youngster is said to have caught the attention of the current Real boss, who replaced the previous coach in the new year.
Spanish media would later label the moment as "love at first sight," noting Pitarch stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the energy, personality and determination he brought to the side.
During the pre-season of 2025, former boss Alonso invited Pitarch to practice with the senior squad and awarded him minutes during the warm-up matches.
However, it was the change in manager that proved the defining moment in his development as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in both ties against the Portuguese side that led to the clash with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I've dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the very first time I started playing football, every day you head to training and every day you have a game," stated the player after his debut.
"I've just achieved my ambition with the best team in the world and in the top tournament."
Given a first start in La Liga against his former club - where he spent four years after moving from Atleti in 2018 - he has kept his place for the following four as injuries to Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.
The teenager has taken it with displays that have belied his youth and inexperience.
"He's a very quick player, and you can observe what he's capable of," said the coach. "He's incredibly energetic, with excellent stamina, effort and movement."
The player's mindset has also impressed his manager.
"His greatest quality is his character," added he. "He always wants the possession, and when pressed, he doesn't feel it.
"I understand fans might be astonished to watch him make his debut in a European fixture, but he is selected because I had complete confidence in him to do his normal game.
"He will continue to get chances with the main squad. It's a pleasure to coach a player like him."
Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Spanish capital's community, and was raised deeply involved in Spanish football, moving through local academies before entering Real Madrid's renowned La Fabrica system.
He holds both Moroccan and Spanish nationality, giving him the choice to play for either country at the highest level.
According to Fifa eligibility rules, players may represent different countries at junior level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they appear in a competitive full international.
He has featured for the Spanish national team at underage levels, representing both the U19 and U20 sides, and participated in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where Spain reached the quarter-finals.
Despite this, he has not yet decided to any full national side, who are monitoring his rise with keen attention.
Speaking recently, the player confirmed: "I haven't made my ultimate choice so far. Things are positive with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a decision in the near future."
His situation echoes that of other bi-national players such as club colleague Diaz and Barca star Yamal. Whereas teenage Yamal chose La Roja, Brahim decided to represent the Atlas Lions.
At present, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Real side and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.
He featured for over an hour in the 2-1 victory at City, which completed a five-one aggregate success and a last-eight matchup with the German champions.
He was replaced by another academy player in Angel to emphasise the coach's confidence in younger players to aid the club chase future success.
After his notable contributions so far on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is tipped to be a central figure in that.
"The manager treats me the identical way. We deal with it very naturally. I try not to think about it excessively - I have to deserve my playing time on the pitch," he commented after the success at Manchester.
